Way back when, before I was entirely and comprehensibly cultured in all thing Memphis, I wrote an article (for a different website) about the cinematic monopoly in Memphis, Malco Theaters. In past years, it has come to my attention that there are other options for those looking to scratch their cinephile addiction. One of the most promising options is the Orpheum Theater Summer Movie Series.
The Orpheum Theater Summer Movie Series starts every year in May and runs until September. With this year’s movie lineup ranging from Zombieland to Father of the Bride, there is sure to be a showing that tickles your fancy. Below is the full lineup for this summer.

I think I’m most excited for Office Space or The Princess Bride…or maybe the Grease Sing-along!
Be forewarned, this is not your typical movie-goer experience. Do you remember those times when you stood in line at a new release of a Harry Potter movie, Lord of the Rings, or Twilight? Do you remember all the people dressed up in strange outfits (if you weren’t one of them)? That’s what one can expect at the Orpheum Theater Summer Movie Series.
The following comes straight from the Orpheum’s website:
“The Orpheum will continue to offer exciting, fun-filled activities in the Orpheum lobby prior to each film. Types of pre-movie activities include movie trivia, costume contests, beer tastings, photo booths, special guest appearances, drink specials, and pre-show concerts on The Orpheum’s Mighty Wurlitzer Organ.”
